4 Mistakes Made When Using Professional Movers

Blog

Have you decided to hire professional movers to get all of your belongings to your next home? If so, it will help to know the following mistakes that you should avoid.

Not Getting An In-Person Estimate

Want to be prepared for what your final bill will actually be to use professional movers? It will help to get an in-person estimate to have the movers look at what is in your home. Seeing your belongings in person will help come up with an accurate estimate of how many hours it will take to load everything on the truck and unload it at your destination.

That said, an in-person estimate is not going to change what you will owe at the end of the move. It will just better prepare you for what the final bill could be.

Not Being Completely Packed Before Your Moving Day

A lot of work needs to be done to prepare for your move, which includes having furniture disassembled and everything put away in boxes. If you wait to finish doing these things on your moving day, it's likely that you won't be ready for when your movers arrive. Since you pay local movers by the hour, you could be wasting time and money having your movers wait around for you to be ready.

Not Labeling Boxes Properly

It's important that you label boxes by the destination of where you want them to go at your new home. Your movers are not going to know what it means when they see the contents of what is inside the box. However, they will be able to figure out where the box is supposed to go when they take it to your new home.

Not Reserving The Loading Area

If you are moving into an apartment building, it is important to reserve the loading area with the landlord to ensure that you have access to it. You don't want to run into an issue where your movers are slowed down because they are fighting other movers for access to a service elevator, or needing to wait your turn to pull your truck into an ally. Reserving the loading area can help prevent unnecessary delays.

These are just a few things to keep in mind as you prepare for your moving day. Looking for more tips? Reach out to a local moving company to learn about what else you should do.
