Getting Ready to Move? 4 Tasks You Don’t Want to Forget

Blog

Moving is a multi-step process. With so many steps and tasks to take care of, it is easy to overlook essential tasks in the moving process. Here are a few tasks you are going to want to make sure you don't overlook.

Task #1: Book Moving Assistance

You are going to want to get help with your move. For example, you may want to hire a team to help move all your boxes and furniture. Or you may want to hire a team to help you pack things up. Regardless of what type of moving services you want to utilize, you will want to book your moving assistance immediately.

Moving services get lots of business, and if you want to ensure you have the help you need, you will want to book them as soon as you know your moving date. Waiting too long could leave you without the help you need.

Task #2: Start Decluttering

When it comes to moving, you are going to want to spend time decluttering your home. There are probably numerous items around your home that you don't need or want anymore. Taking the time to declutter will help ensure you don't bring items you don't want to your new home. Decluttering will also allow you to organize your home and ensure everything is in the right place so when you pack it, everything is organized.

Task #3: Go Through Your Food

Next, you are going to want to go through your food. You will want to work through and eat all the perishable food in your fridge, so you have less perishable food to move. Most moving companies will not move perishable food for you, so eating all your food down will reduce what you need to move on your own.

You will also want to go through your pantry food, get rid of anything expired, donate anything that qualified, and pack up the rest. Throw away any food you don't need in advance.

Task #4: Properly Dispose of Hazardous Materials

You are also going to want to arrange to dispose of hazardous or flammable materials. This includes things such as gas, hairspray, paints, and car batteries. You are going to want to safely throw away these items or use them up before your move. Moving companies will not move hazardous or flammable items. Contact your trash company to see where and how you can dispose of these items.

Once you know you are moving, you will want to book your movers right away. Then, give yourself time to declutter and organize your home. Go through your food and eat things down before your move. Figure out how to dispose of hazardous materials before your move. These are four essential tasks you are not going to want to delay or put off.
